PATRIMOINE HERITAGE

This is a measure of the paddy/rice which is the mainstay of Kerala cuisine and is still a symbol of the agrarian culture prevalent in Kerala. Made of wood of the coconut palm and brass, it was a sign of prosperity. The other units of measurement used were "naazhi" and "para". This picture also has a "muram" made of reeds and is used for winnowing rice or other grains.
